back to Anchor town...

Our ride back to Anchorage was more beautiful than the way out.. hey all you touring in Italy .. Eat your Hearts out! : )

We took our time.. stopping to enjoy the sites, bask in the beautiful sunlight. Taking a break at Bird Creek Campground we made our way down to the beach to snack for lunch. Of course a well balanced meal.

Hi everybody.. we live in Alaska.. and we think it's cool!

jordan makes magic with his camera.

cycling alaskan style.. turnagain arm to girdwood

This past weekend Jordan and i tried out our cycling legs. With Alaska gifting us AMAZING weather we had to take advantage. Setting off from the cabin early Saturday morning we made our way down Turnagain Arm - Girdwood way.

After an amazing cycle to Girdwood we stopped for dinner at a local watering hole. Fueled up and ready for another jaunt.. we took off down the road hoping to get to Portage Glacier before dark. A few miles outside of town Jordan got a flat. Lucky we live in Alaska and EVERYONE owns a truck. Hitch hiking back to town was a sinch. Back to the bike shop were the very friendly Jim and Brian got us on our way again. Deciding it was getting late we found a fabulous spot by Glacier Creek to camp for the evening. Jordan being the genius he is.. we roasted mushrooms instead of marshmellows! It's the other M.

moving day..

today was another glorious day in Alaska.. after spending the day hiking for work along Turnagain Arm.. jordan, myself and four other friends hiked Bird Ridge.. That evening jordan and i decided it was time to let the girls check out their new digs! So, we moved them in.

They were thrilled to have more room for frolicing about, scratching and exploring. It's a lovely view from the inside of the cabin to the coop run. Funny thing the girls haven't quite figured out glass.. they keep pecking at my glass door thinking they can come in the cabin.. woke up this morning to tap.. tap.. tap.. and a very confused chicken!

done and done..

Okay.. yesterday was the day! After a very busy evening Tuesday night, i hauled butt getting everything DONE and DONE. Not only was i able to finish the coop, i also completed a few cabin projects. I added a pallet deck to my arctic entry, it's fabulous. No more mud tracked into the cabin. After a very long day.. i was happy to know the girls would be moved in soon.

eggs.. glorious eggs...

the girls are a-layin.. yum.. yum..

ouch! ladies..

okay.. this is the second egg of it's kind. We are not sure which lady it's coming from.. however, i suspect Little Red.. oh and just so everyone knows. We are having a Chicken Naming Party.. That's right.. these girls need proper names! Thus far jordan and i have assigned them identifying names by their features.

We have: Brown Head (she's spice.. always making a mess and trying to get out), Black Head (is her accomplice); then we have the TRIO.. all black chickens.. we have Little Red, Big Red and Baldy (she get's pecked at.. low lady on the pecking order i suppose)
Our oblong egg is photoed with my Big Brother, Big Sisters... Little Sis Brittany.. SHE ROCKS!

If anyone would like to submit a Chicken Name.. you can do so. One name only, so make it good!

still working on the coop!

a never ending process.. the coop is complete, however, it's the chicken enclosure that is the tricky part. I know most of you have bets going. However, i'll let you know as the proud mom of these ladies i'll do everything in my power to keep them safe. That's what mom's do!

Jordan and i came up with a little something.. we think teens should endorse. " Don't have babies, Get Chickens" We think it will make a great t-shirt!

the girls are a laying

The first day on the job, the girls did wonderfully! Jordan and i came home, sprinting from the car to the coop to check out the girls. With amazement we found THREE eggs in the nest box, it was thrilling! We promptly ate them, yum. yum... they were delish!

Having the girls around is a simple pleasure, their clucks and coos.. quacks and scratches..

five lovely ladies

The girls came home earlier last week. We had quite the adventure. The girls coop wasn't quite finished so we had to borrow cousin Will's Chicken Tracker. After loading up the the tracker we drove over to Donna's farm on the hillside where our girls were waiting for us.

Word had it they hadn't been laying much since being put on quarantine. Jordan and I both knew they were be much happier in their new digs.

Bringing them home to the cabin, we set the Chicken Tracker in place and transported them one by one. They instantly started scratching around looking for little bugs bites.. with a bit of food and water they were much happier!
